CANRI
Community Access to Natural
Resource Information, NSW Australia
|
http://www.canri.nsw.gov.au
CANRI
is one the world's first Spatial Data Infrastructures,
facilitating the sharing and conjoint visualisation of data
between NSW (Australia) government departments and also external
organisations. Although CANRI is a framework that can use any
technologies, CANRI helped identify the need for the WebMap
Composer middleware and The WMC 1.0 web client is now being
adopted as a standard user interface for many of the
applications.
CANRI data suppliers include: Australian
Museum - Dept of Information Technology &
Management - Dept of Sustainable Natural
Resources (ex DLWC) - Dept of Mineral Resources
- Dept of Urban Affairs & Planning -
Environment Protection Authority - National
Parks & Wildlife Service - NSW Agriculture
- NSW Fisheries - Royal
Botanic Gardens - State Forests of NSW -
and many more

New!
|
http://test.nratlas.canri.nsw.gov.au
This is a preview release of work undertaken by SCO to upgrade
the NSW Natural Resource Atlas (see below) and underlying CANRI
catalogue. The entire application was built using WebMap Composer
1.5. WMC 1.5 will be available in early 2004.

NSW Natural Resource Atlas
|
http://atlas.canri.nsw.gov.au
The
CANRI NSW Natural Resource Atlas (NRA) is a WebMap Composer 1.0.2
implementation. The NRA provides a single point of access to CANRI
distributed spatial data sets. Other than custom CANRI Catalog
support and configuration by CANRI, this is an off-the-shelf
WebMap Composer deployment.

CANRI WFS Pilot
River Health

Please note: this service is temporarily unavailable
The CANRI WFS (Web Feature Service) pilot shows water quality
monitoring site locations and allows a user to investigate water
quality data at each site. The site shows report chaining / data
service invocation from a selected site on the map.
The
demonstration is believed to have been the first public
demonstration of a functional WFS 1.0 client - ours! It accesses
both SCO's WFS Observations Server and ESRI's beta WFS connector
for ArcIMS. The Web Feature Server(s) deliver raw vector data as
GML from a database to the WMC middleware. The WMC middleware
reprojects and renders the point data over base map layers served
by a Web Map Server.

NSW Wildlife Atlas

NSW
National Parks and Wildlife Service
The atlas serves
thematic maps of species sightings, using gridded aggregation
techniques, ie where there are more sightings, it shows bigger
dots. This is accomplished using an observations profile on an
OpenGIS Web Feature Service (SCO's WFS-Lite) and rendering the
aggregated sightings on a base map through the WebMap Composer
middleware. The taxonomy browser is reusable. NB. This site uses a
slow base map service from DLWC.

Plan Connect - Planning NSW
A CANRI
node
Document Cross Linking
|
http://planconnect.nsw.gov.au
Plan Connect searches for information about the planning
conditions that may apply to a parcel of land in New South Wales.
You can search for your property and obtain the relevant
documents, such as Local or Regional Environmental Plans, that set
out the planning conditions that relate to your land. Conversely,
the extent of planning instruments can be shown on the map.
The cross linking of documents and related spatial data is
accomplished via OpenGIS Gazetteer Services (a profile on the Web
Feature Service). A gazetteer is a list of place names and their
map location. WebMap Composer middleware orchestrates the queries.
Note that this service will shortly feature an alternate interface
using a third-party Java applet and data server, fully integrated
into the application architecture, to portray vector data live in
the web client, served through the WMC middleware.

Community Data Management
|
http://nccnsw.org.au/mapping
The
NCC site uses maps as an index to find spatially located
environmental information. It also enables the upload of community
generated data and map files.
WebMap Composer 1.0 and the
CANRI spatial data infrastructure are used to combine community
collected and owned data with available government data, into
readily useable and accessible online mapping tools for
conservation purposes.

This demonstration is not visually spectacular, however is
included as an example of how the WebMap Composer web client is
readily customised. In this case, a custom tool for searching a
gazetteer database (the Antarctic Gazetteer) by place name and/or
feature type was quickly added to the user interface. The search
tool is reusable in other applications. The Gazetteer and
Thesaurus (taxonomy of feature types) were implemented as Web
Feature Service (WFS) profiles using our WFS implementation.
