Why does my JVM die with a HotSpot error when compiling a page? (Deprecated)

Deprecated.

See the online install note for current Tomcat / JVM requirements.

The easiest solution is to use Tomcat 4.1.12 with the suggested modification or
use Tomcat 4.0.4 with the Jasper 2 upgrade.

The following has only been observed in the Tomcat 4.0.4 with the Jasper 2 upgrade:

The first time it will cause the HotSpot error to happen. Start tomcat again after the HotSpot error, this time don't delete the cache. Do this two or three times until the application has started and you have walked through all pages.

Once you have done this the HotSpot error will not return again until the next time you restart Tomcat. Refer to the Sun JDK website for further information.
